Miramonte Winery in Temecula

Miramonte has a welcoming and friendly tasting room and staff. The tasting room sits atop a high hill looking down on the vineyard and Rancho California Road below. The wines were good with several appealing options. Not as intriguing as wines from Wiens, Leonesse or Robert Renzoni but not as expensive either.

2005 Four Torch, Red Meritage. This wine had a nice depth that I found enjoyable. This was my favorite by far at this winery.

The other two reds we enjoyed were: 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2005 Estate Syrah.

There was an interesting Riesling from Germany (they also had a local selection). It was mildly sweet with a little hint of honey and grapefruit. I thought it was pleasant but not amazing.

Miramonte also offered an unique port. Most ports have a pronounced raisin or fig smell and taste. This port instead had a distinct mocha taste. The port was okay by itself but quite nice when paired with a dark chocolate. If you enjoy ports and are looking for something distinctive you'll want to give this one a try.

Happy winos!
