Doffo 2008 Syrah

Doffo Vineyards in Temecula is one of our favorites.  It's a small vineyard, but they take the time to make terrific wine.  Tonight's choice is a 2008 Syrah.

Label description: "This 100% Syrah comes from a small, well-managed vineyard.  The vines are mature enough to supply a well balanced, hand-crafted wine.  It is firm, dense, and full-bodied, brilliant red and dark berries, with a note of black and white pepper, cloves, vanilla, cocoa, and toasted oak."  I definitely taste the berries and get a hint of the vanilla and oak.  It really is full-bodied and delicious.  Doffo Vineyards is a great little place, and pretty much everything they make is excellent.  The owner and winemaker, Marcello, can often be found behind the counter at the tasting room, offering his insights and tasty wine.  They host fun dinners a few times a year for members, and when we went to one a few months ago, Marcello was sharing his brand new grappa, something not sold by the winery, but still fun to try.
